REPORT 2012-13

Regular classes and training are imparted on all Saturdays during the zero period for the coverage of
syllabus as per the APRO.

Four troop meetings were conducted in April and June.

A meeting of the Scouters and guiders was conducted in April, an action plan
was prepared and duties were allotted in
connection with the Annual three day camp in June.

A three day annual camp was
conducted from 11th to 13th May 2012 in the school in
which 117 scouts and Guides participated. The camp was inaugurated by the Dist.
Chief Commissioner: Dr. S Nalayini.

A team of 16
guides and 15 scouts along with Mrs. S. Santha
and Mr. J. Selvans went for a full day hospital service on 12th May to
the District Homeo Hospital , Palakkad

A selected
team of 17 scouts escorted by a Scout
Master took part in the National
Adventure Trekking Programme at Manimitharu, Thirunelveli in May, in association with the Kerala chapter of
the National Adventure Foundation.

On 28th
June 50 saplings were planted
by 50 scout and guide volunteers in the school campus as part of the social
forestry activities under the leadership of Scouters and Guiders: Mrs. Santha
S, Mrs. Leena K , Mr. J Selvans and Mr. Abdul Shumz.

5 Guides and
3 Scouts were selected and their applications were forwarded for taking part in the Rashtrapathy testing
Camp 2012. Project work for the Prime ministers Shield including road safety
and savings scheme among children were conducted.

8 scouts and
8 Guides were selected for the Rajyapuraskar Tesitng camp, 2012 and necessary
training was given to them. From them 2
scouts and 2 guides were selected finally for the camp and they participated
the Zonal Level Testing Camp in Bangalore .

4 units were
registered for the Prime Ministers
trophy and project work started.

One Guide
Captain Mrs. S Santha took part in the regional level meeting of Scouters and
Guiders at Ernakulam.

Four troop meetings were conducted in July.

A farewell was organized for the
Guide Captain Mrs. Leena K who went on transfer to Coimbatore on 31st July.

A meeting of
all the scouters and guiders was conducted to discuss about the Inspection, Guard
of Honour and Independence day march past competition.

A team of 36 scouts were selected for the Independence day Parade
competition at Fort Maidan, Palakkad as per the order of the Hon. Dist.
Collector. They were trained for the Marchpast competition and escorted for 4
days to Palakkad. The team under the leadership of Master Nithin. S (X-B) secured
first place in the March past competition.

After the
Independence day celebrations all Scouts and Guides cleaned the school campus
and class rooms. Light refreshment was provided to the participants.

Saplings
were distributed to Scouts and Guides from the department of forests, govt. of
Kerala under the ‘Ente Maram’ project.

In
order to help the less privileged in our society, “a fistful of rice”
project was undertaken . Scouts and Guides collected rice from houses and
handed over to the inmates of an orphanage in Chandranagar, Palakkad.

Investiture ceremony: the Investiture ceremony was
completed for the new recruits to the movement with 5 Scouts and Guides each
from every Patrol. Dr. Smt. S Nalayini, Principal and the Dist. Commissioner
(G) was the Chief guest on the final day
of the ceremony. The new recruits were honoured and was permitted to take oath
in front of a qualified Scouter or Guider. They were provided with membership
badge, scarf, Vogel world scout badge etc.

For
sharing of knowledge and experiences on Facebook, to give publicity &
visibility of KVS BS&G movement,
accounts were opened as per the guidelines and students were encouraged to post

Adventure cycling.: An Adventure cycling programme
was conducted for a set of 40 scouts to the dam site area in Kava,
Malampuzha. The rally was flagged off by
the Regional Incentive Award winner Sri. Umesh Kumar .T, UDC of KV Kanjikode
and the Librarian Sri. Mujib Rahman. The cycling was for 16 KMs to one side and
was a full day programme.

scouts and two guides were selected for the Regional level ‘Rajyapuraskar’ Testing camp held at Hyderabad. They are: Master
Nikhil and Nithin. S, Kumari. Gopika and Abhinaya.V

Scouts were selected for the Annual
Tritiya Sopan cum Patrol Leaders Testing camp conducted at KV Kannur
and 20 Guides participated at KV Ernakulam.

entries were selected for the participation in the East Asia & Pacific
Regional and South Asia Regional UNGEI
drawing & painting competition on the topic: ‘what can a teacher do
to ensure girls and boys benefit equally from quality education?’.

An
‘All
Faith Prayer’ was
conducted on 2nd October in connection with the Gandhi Jayanthi
celebrations at the Multi –purpose hall at 8 AM. A good number of Scouts and
Guides participated. The District Commissioner-Guides Smt. Dr. S Nalayini was
the Chief Guest. Individual prayers and special prayer songs were sung.

Flag
Day: The flag day was celebrated by the Department of Scouts and Guides
in a very befitting way, as per the guide lines given by BSG, KVS state. A formal special troop meeting was
conducted with the total participation of the members of our unit, including
Scouts, Guides , Cubs and Bulbuls. The color party hoisted the flag and after
the routine programmes in the troop meeting, an awareness programme about the
movement for the school community was conducted. The special school assembly
programme was started with the briefing of the Guide Captain Mrs. Santha. S
. Kumari Nimisha S Pradeep of class IX
anchored the programme. A quiz was conducted about the Movement by two students: The Bulbuls sung a community song .
The
distribution of Flag Day Stamp was done in the assembly by the In-charge
Principal Mrs. N Usha, who inspired the students about the necessity of joining
in the movement. It was followed by a Painting competition : the participation was appreciable. The
selected paintings were forwarded for
the regional competition. At 10 Am A team of 8 members consisting - three Scout
Masters, One Guide Captain , three Guides and one Scout- visited M/s.
Instrumentation Ltd- Kanjikode, the largest Public Sector Undertaking in the
district as part of the Community Awareness Programme. The flag day stamp
distribution was inaugurated by the Additional General Manager : Mr. Eapen
Varghese. The team met the Deputy
Manager(P&A): Mr. Radha Mohan and others and stamps were distributed.
The
Flag day celebration was under the leadership of Dr. Smt. S Nalayini, Principal and the Dist.
Commissioner (G), HWB Scout Masters: A. Abdul Shumz, J Selvens, HWB Guide
Captain Mrs. S Santha, and other trained Scouters , Guiders, Cub Masters and Flock Leaders like: Arun Prasanth, CV Sasikala,
Sheela PR, Sunitha V, R Narayanan, T. Thomson etc.
27. The
Thinking day: was celebrated in a very befitting way by the
Scouts and Guides of Vivekananda scout troop and Kasturba Guide company of KV
Kanjikode of the Chennai division of BSG on 22nd February, 2012.

All faith prayer
An All Faith prayer
was conducted in a serene atmosphere on 22-02-12 on the thinking day by the
scouts and guides at 8.30 AM in the mini prayer hall. The District Chief Commissioner Mrs. Dr. S Nalayini was the
chief guest. 103 scouts and guides participated in uniform. Individual prayers
and special prayer songs were sung. 7 Scout Masters and 8 Guide Captains participated and led the
prayer. Music teacher Sri. Narayanan was the leading person.

In the morning assembly a
special talk was made by a TSPL Guide Kumari Shwetha Sasidharan, from
class 8 b who threw light on the
movement and its founder Lord Baden Powell. It was a very informative talk
which inspired all the 1000 students attended.

At 9.30 Am, a team of 78 members ( 27 guides and 51 scouts )
started a journey in the school bus to Dhoni Hills and waterfall area which is
26 KMs away from the school. The team
secured special permission to visit the Chenath Nair Reserve forest , Olavakode
circle- (Dhoni, palakkad ) area where the entry was restricted due to security
reasons. They went on an adventure trekking through the
forest area to 6 KMs to one side. Participants were divided into 7 patrols with
leaders. They were led by 2 forest guards named: Mr. Ameen and Mr. Abdul Salam.
The team was escorted by 2 guide captains (Mrs. S Santha and Mrs. Leena
K- both HWB Guide Captains and 3 Scout Masters Mr. Abdul Shumz , Mr. J Selvens-
both HWB Scouters and Mr Ravi Rathod, Basic Scouter). This nature study
trekking became a thrilling experience to the participants. Competitions
on gadget making, tent erection, First Aid bandages etc were
conducted in the afternoon session. Small
games and a treasure hunt competition were also there in the schedule. Wood craft signs were
followed by the participants. At 4. PM
the team started the retreat journey, and reached the school at 5. PM.
We
express our thanks to the Principal and parent community for the unconditional
support given for the department for all these activities.
