‘BE THE BEST’

KANJIKODE:

A special talk was conducted on the topic “ be the best” by Mr. Vijayan Menon, an IAS trainee for the selected students of the +2  classes. A prominent teacher from the Indian Institute of management, Mr. Menon urged the students to be best in your life, but best is necessarily not to be first always. We should try to be best in our identity with the rest. There should be a purpose in life for all. And we should try to make our life meaningful with some creativity. It should be a quest with a higher meaning. Learn to respect life, but respect all forms of life. Students should have a depth of thought but be selfless.

Mr. Vijayan Menon stressed on the necessity to show respect for food and highlighted that they should pray before taking it. He also insisted on the need to give alms to the needy and poor in society. Our life should have a higher purpose.

The programme was organized in association with the Sathya Sai Seva Samithi of Palakkad in the multi purpose hall of the vidyalaya.  The special session was presided by the Principal of the Vidyalaya Mr. KP Ravidas who introduced the chief guest and welcomed the gathering.   Mr. AM Prabhakaran, president of the Samithi addressed the students and appealed them to donate a handful of rice to help the less privileged in the society. The world does not need charity. But we should offer all help to others. The students whole heartedly accepted this and decided to pour rice in three buckets kept by the seva samithi as a noble gesture to help the poor people by saving a few grains of rice from their food.

The vice principal of the vidyalaya KVVSRS Lakshmi proposed vote of thanks.  Selected 280 students of the senior classes attended the special session along with a team of teachers.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY.................

Jawaharlal Nehru , popularly known as Panditji among the elders and chachaji among the children ,was invited for a political discussion at the residents office in culcutta.  As you know the resident is the officer in charge of the administration of the province of Bengal. Neatly dressed nehruji reached  the gate of the palace at the right time.  When he was standing there he observed the arrival of horse cart from the opposite side  and an officer was trying to get down from the vehicle. He was a very fat man with a set of bulky boots. He insisted an Indian chaparasi, who was standing near the gate, to kneel down and to stay like an animal on the floor so that he can easily  step down. The fat officer jumped on the back of that poor Indian . He was suffering like anything and cried due to the heavy weight on his back. Surprised and shocked to see this nehruji called him and asked. The reply came like this in Hindi: babuji aap jaaanthe hei ki meim ek chaprasi hoon. So what…? An Indians back is not a football to a foreigner. An Indians back is not a ladder to a British, he remarked. This incident is explained  by panditji in one of writings where he underlines one particular point  that, the lack of confidence , self respect and self pride are the reasons for the backwardness of India. I think this  is relevant for us too.

Children you know that ours is nation with a greet past and culture. Ours is the only nation with a great continuity in its culture. But due to the lack of self pride and confidence we were easily defeated by many groups of foreigners in the ancient period like the hunas, the sakas, the kushans, afghans, Mongols, arabs, the turks  and in the medieval period by the Europeans like the Portuguese , the French , the Dutch, the britishers, and what not.

But did you ever think of the reason for all that ? .In what way are we inferior to all these groups? In what way are we below all these groups. ?  we must be proud of culture and heritage. We must be proud of our great past and achievements. So we must try to inculcate these values like confidence, courage, self respect, self pride etc  in our life . Kindly think over it today and through out  your life and try to follow this.

Thank you.

rain water project

RAIN WATER, FOR STUDENTS

 THE ELIXIR OF  LIFE ………………

Ottapalam:

The raindrops, which fall on the rooftop of Kendriya Vidyalaya, of Palappuram situated near Ottapalam in the Palakkad district, will never be wasted to the drainages. It will become the fundamental life water source for a student strength of 1600 and for a group of 70 staff members.

A model rainwater preservation tank  with a radius of 6 meters and a depth of 2.5 meters has been constructed for this purpose. The rain that  falls on the roof top of the vidyalaya buildings with not less than 2000 squire feet coverage will be collected through the pipes attached and directed after necessary filtering to the tank kept below the soil level.

The tank,  constructed with Ferro cement technology, has the capacity of holding 60000 liters of water.  In case of overflow, arrangement is made for the excess water to be diverted to the well nearby. The construction of the tank is in such a way that the collected water can be persevered for months from pollution or any other type of problems related and can be distributed after necessary purification. It is estimated that it can be filled at least 10 times in a year according to the approximate availability of rainfall at Ottapalam. Eventhough arrangement is made on top of the tank for air passage, it is completed in such a way that  sunrays can hardly enter.

The project was completed with the enthusiasm and special interest shown by the Chairman of the vidyalaya management committee and the district collector Mr. Sanjeev Kaushik IAS. Approximately a  sum of RS. 1 lakh was spent for its completion.

Being the first one of its kind in an educational institution in the district and perhaps in the state  of  Kerala, it is appreciated by everybody  as a different endeavor.
